TF053 is a swing-away spare wheel carrier for Land Rover Discovery 3 and Discovery 4. It relocates the spare wheel from underneath the vehicle to the rear, making it easier to access and allowing larger tyres to be carried.
The carrier attaches to the heavy rear chassis member behind the plastic rear bumper. It swings aside to provide access to the drop-down tailgate.
A lockable over-centre lever holds the carrier closed. A gas strut assists opening and helps hold it open, preventing it from closing under its own weight when the vehicle is on a side slope.
Moving the spare wheel also frees up space underneath the vehicle that may be used for an additional fuel tank.
